Ascend Race Rules
Introduction
The Ascend Race is South Africa’s premier functional fitness race, combining running with eight workout stations to challenge participants’ endurance, strength, and determination. These rules are designed to ensure fairness, safety, and a consistent experience for all competitors.
- General Rules
1.1. All participants must register online through the official Ascend Race website prior to the event. 1.2. Participants must arrive at the venue at least 1 hour before their scheduled race time for check-in and briefing. 1.3. Proper sports attire must be worn throughout the race, including suitable footwear. 1.4. Participants must adhere to all instructions provided by race officials and volunteers. 1.5. The Ascend Race reserves the right to disqualify participants who engage in unsportsmanlike conduct or violate any of the event’s rules.
- Race Divisions
2.1. Rookie Division
- Running Segments: 200m runs between stations.
- Stations Include: Rowing, Sled Push/Pull, Unweighted Lunges, Kettlebell Swings, Burpee Box Step-Overs, Ski Erg, and Bike Erg.
- Designed for beginners and those new to functional fitness. Movements are simpler and do not require prior experience.
2.2. Pro Division
- Running Segments: 400m runs between stations.
- Stations Include: Rowing, Sled Push/Pull (heavier weights), Weighted Lunges, Kettlebell Swings, Burpee Box Jump-Overs, Ski Erg, and Bike Erg.
- Intended for seasoned athletes, providing a rigorous test of strength and endurance.
- Participation Options
3.1. Solo Competitors
- Competitors complete all runs and workout stations individually.
3.2. Pairs
- Teams of two may consist of Male/Male, Female/Female, or Mixed-Gender.
- Workout stations can be divided between partners as preferred, but all running segments are performed together.
- In Mixed Pairs, Men’s weights are used for all stations in both Rookie and Pro Divisions.
- Safety Guidelines
4.1. All participants are responsible for their own safety and must exercise caution during the race.
4.2. Hydration stations will be available throughout the race course.
4.3. Medical personnel will be on standby for emergencies. Participants are encouraged to notify officials immediately if assistance is required.
- Disqualification
5.1. Reasons for disqualification include but are not limited to:
- Failure to complete all running segments or workout stations.
- Use of performance-enhancing drugs or banned substances.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct, including verbal or physical abuse of competitors or officials.
- Tampering with equipment or interfering with other competitors.
- Acknowledgment of Risk
6.1. By participating in the Ascend Race, all athletes acknowledge that the event involves inherent risks and agree to participate at their own risk.
6.2. Ascend Race and its organizers are not liable for any injuries, loss, or damage incurred during the event.
- Amendments
7.1. Ascend Race reserves the right to modify these rules at any time. Participants will be notified of significant changes prior to the event.
